Concentration. Something essential to write any text.

It is common for people which try to make written works have problems when they are making any project that involves their own criteria, perspective or preference. Sometimes when they spend time in doing a handwork or type work they commit the mistake that I want to remark here:  Don’t be concentrated. Concentration is an indispensable element to perform or create any kind of activity successfully.

Think about this: your teacher of language has asked you to deliver a story created by you, the teacher wants your own creativity, your own imagination in the paper in form of tale, legend or fable, or, probably, you are asked to deliver an essay, actually the problem works on any text that you make by putting your mind on that, and while you are in front of the paper or page you feel the time pass and you just cannot make progress as you want. Looking the cellphone, listening music, or any distraction for you could be the cause of your lack of time, because you are not concentrated.

What happen if you are not concentrated? It’s common start writing after reading; taking information about what we don’t know is essential to be able to understand a topic, but is more than that. “Sitting down and write over the paper or typing on a keyboard” you can think…not exactly. You have read some information and something more, but you don’t have your own ideas clear and that’s the reason why you lack enthusiasm to do your job and you finish with a work that perhaps don’t deserve a 70% of score after have spent 2 to 4 hours writing it. In any part of the text you can find a piece of rock hindering the passage of your ideas; maybe you are not sure about what you should write, even though you have the tittle, the topic, the main idea, the subject,… you just can’t be full of thinking, so you decide reading a little more about what you need to write, but if you don’t feel involved in the lecture, you won’t feel prepared to write.

What to do to get concentration? My advice as a student: The better way to get more concentration is getting inspired and the writing habit. When you need to be concentrated about something, getting inspired can make you put your mind in that work. Taking a writing habit, even if you don’t consider to be a writer, write all the days as read all the days helps in many things. It helps to practice your writing skill, your reading skill.

On my experience, for example, yesterday I thought: What should I write about? What I want to write? The questions are almost the same that all the times that I have wrote an opinion essay or a journal. I remember the time when I was given a homework pretty large; not an essay, not an investigation that could have been easier than these task; I’m talking about a book. In the world of writers exist the term “writer’s block” that consist in the writer stopping his/her advance caused by the lack of inspiration, words, ideas; then take this term and apply it to a person who only write if he has a determined activity to do for. Yeah, it was painful. With a deadline getting closer, I made a lot of mistakes, I made hasty decisions and I was forced to leave a story which looked spectacular (on my opinion) in order to develop other easier to do. These moments when we are being pushed by a deadline are the moments when we feel most worried, because there’s no more time to say “latter” or “tomorrow”, only “now” and “today”.

In conclusion, not being concentrated at the time of writing a text may end up taking much longer than you could really need, plus you may end up being disappointed by a work that, having finished in a hurry, is not what it could have been if you had put in it as is due. Getting concentrated, at the hand of a writing habit can make a good difference in your working time as a student.
